An article entitled, "Sir Ian, 86, fights on … At last, Arthur’s champion finds an ally of his own" appeared in the Western Daily Press on 5 December 1972.

This featured a local eccentric, Sir Ian Stuart-Knill, a spiritualist who cherished a special interest in King Arthur, and his personal connections to the legend, and who had recently published “The Pedigree of King Arthur.”

The article includes his thoughts on "Arthur of the Britons", the first episode of which was to air the following day.

“And he is looking forward to HTV’s coming television series on King Arthur with grave apprehension.

From what he has read, Arthur is made out to be a young peasant cavalry captain against the Saxons, where in fact he was a great king.

He will also be shown riding a white horse. Sir Ian and his wife have only seen King Arthur riding a black horse in their trances.

Neither can Sir Ian understand why Guinevere and Merlin have been left out of the series.”
